E.B. Wilson

E.B. Wilson is chairman emeritus of the board of trustees of St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., where he served 16 years as a trustee, six years as chairman. While on the St. Lawrence board, he chaired the committee on trustees, the institutional planning committee, the compensation committee, the academic and faculty affairs committee, and the executive committee. WIlson recently completed a five-year term as trustee of The Boston Conservatory, where he chaired the academic affairs committee and the institutional planning committee and served on the audit committee and the committee on trustees. He served two terms as a member of the Council of Board Chairs of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB). He designed and facilitates an AGB workshop on the role of the committee on trustees in effective board governance. As a consultant and facilitator for AGB, he specializes in strategic planning, in assessing presidential and board performance, and in helping boards of trustees adopt the best practices of strategic governance. Wilson is a member of the Public Education Nominating Council, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Wilson has previously served a four-year term as chair of the board of directors of the Executive Service Corps of New England, an organization that serves the nonprofit community through the volunteer resources of retired senior executives.

In his 35-year business career, Wilson has had extensive global experience as a chief executive officer, including president and CEO of C.F. Hathaway Company, CEO of Almay, Inc., and CEO of subsidiary companies of Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Tokyo and Paris. His functional expertise is in consumer goods marketing and business and strategic planning. In addition, Wilson has served on a number of civic boards of directors, including those of the San Francisco Ballet and the Central Park (New York City) Conservancy, and a variety of domestic and international boards of industrial companies and charitable foundations.

Wilson writes for publications and previously wrote a bi-monthly column for AGB’s Trusteeship Magazine to which he continues to contribute. He also manages an active consulting practice.

Wilson received his AB in history and government from St. Lawrence University, from which he also holds an honorary doctorate degree and an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
