Academy for New Presidents

Sunday, April 22, 2012 - 8:30am - 3:30pm
Conference Workshop (no fee)

AGB has created a day-long seminar for presidents on working effectively with the board. While the seminar is designed for presidents in the first three years on the job, any sitting president may participate in these exclusive sessions geared specifically for institution chief executive officers. Includes special sessions with focused conversation on particular needs of your college or university's sector.

The agenda, designed with the input of long-serving presidents and with key portions tracked separately for public and independent institutions, is built around several important topics:

  1. Understanding and developing the board you inherit.
  2. Creating an effective partnership with the chair.
  3. Managing factors important to the board's work, such as brokering the relationships between senior staff and committee chairs, effectively using and structuring board committees, leveraging the external work of the board, and creating an effective board culture.
  4. Avoiding key pitfalls of new presidents and their boards.

The day will conclude with an opportunity for participants to explore "sticky governance challenges."

There is no cost for presidential participants who have also registered for the National Conference on Trusteeship. The fee for non-conference attendees is $335.
