AGB and CHEA Audio Conference on Accreditation
Did you attend this audio conference? Please let us know what you thought by completing an evaluation.
The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) will provide, via audio conference, an exclusive opportunity to discuss how governing boards should successfully engage in accreditation processes from 2:00 to 3:00 ET on April 1, 2010. Participants will learn specific recommended approaches for presidents, board chairs, board members, and faculty.
Governing boards bear ultimate responsibility for educational missions and the overall quality of learning experiences. The audio conference addresses how and why governing boards are making accreditation oversight a priority. Boards play a critical role in these processes and must understand measures of academic quality and accountability. Trustees should know what degrees and academic programs their institutions offer, along with the policies for the recruitment, assessment, and promotion of faculty. Institutional leaders must also play a role in advancing board member knowledge of educational, research, and service programs. Governing boards have the responsibility to ensure that program offerings align with institutional missions and strategic plans.
Leading the presentation are Richard Legon, President of AGB and Judith Eaton, President of CHEA. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the presenters and ask questions.
As background, a copy of the 2009 AGB-CHEA joint advisory statement on accreditation can be found on the AGB Website.
