Presidential Transition Webinar Series, Part Three
Presidential transitions can signal both anticipation and anxiety to
a university community. The search for a new leader is time consuming
and presents challenging responsibilities for the institution's
governing board and the board professional who serves it. The process
should be informed by the campus culture, public meeting and public
record laws (for public institutions), and by the development of a
position description that captures the qualities and experience that
the board will be seeking in its next president. The transition should
anticipate the new leader's needs as well as the role of the outgoing
president, and continue to engage board leaders in building the
foundation for a successful presidency.
