For Board Professionals

Take advantage of the resources available to board professionals as members of AGB; there are people, services, meetings and publications there to support you.  You can get help planning a retreat, revamping new trustee orientation, drafting a conflict of interest disclosure form, and everything in between.

Board Professionals Network

AGB members often need information right away about a broad range of policies and practices and want to hear from other board professionals, especially at institutions like their own. The Board Professionals Network on Ning.com allows you to reach out to your network of peers and get answers fast. It is restricted to board professionals to focus the discussion on issues of greatest interest and to allow for candid exchanges. Subscribers typically use the network to: post questions; ask for sample documents, such as handbooks, policies, committee charges, and job descriptions; and get advice on event planning, such as trustee orientation and presidential inaugurations.

This is a free member service and over 250 board professionals subscribe. Contact the moderator for more information about how to join and use the service.

2010 Survey of Board Professionals

This survey, developed by AGB’s Board Professionals Leadership Group, explored the typical responsibilities of college, university, and foundation employees who support governing boards (board professionals), their demographic characteristics, and their professional development needs. AGB sent the survey to 1,233 AGB-member board professionals in April 2010, and it was completed by 406 (a response rate of 32.9 percent). The respondents reflect AGB’s membership: 64.9 percent independent colleges and universities, 30.9 percent public institutions, and 4.5 percent institutionally-related foundations.  The survey instrument and a summary of results from all respondents are available for review. Additional survey reports are available to AGB-member board professionals on the Network for Board Professionals at agbbps.ning.com.
