Over 800 College and University Board Members and Institution Leaders to Convene at AGB's National Conference on Trusteeship

Los Angeles CA (April 1, 2011) — More than 800 college and university board members, presidents, senior administrators and other leaders representing 275 colleges and universities will convene in Los Angeles April 3-5, 2011 at the National Conference on Trusteeship, the annual meeting of volunteer board members from across all sectors of higher education held by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB).

Featured meeting speakers include James Fallows, national correspondent, The Atlantic, and Mark Zandi, chief economist, Moody's Analytics.

The meeting will address fundamental questions facing higher education boards in a time of great complexity, including federal education policy and the impact of health care reform; the role of college athletics; tuition and student aid; decreasing state financial support; post-crisis approaches to investment policy; and the role of boards in overseeing academic quality.

Ray Suarez, senior correspondent, The NewsHour, PBS, will lead a panel discussion with Nancy Cantor, chancellor, Syracuse University, Muriel Howard, president, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, David Miles, president, Iowa Board of Regents, Suzanne Woolsey, board chair, Colorado College and trustee, California Institute of Technology, and Mark Yudof, president, University of California on whether our process of governance is up to the task.

This year's National Conference of Trusteeship marks the 90th anniversary of the formation of The Association of Governing Boards, which was established in 1921 with the express purpose of regularly convening trustees, regents and academic leaders from across the nation to address crucial issues facing higher education and its governance.
