Leaders in Public Higher Education, Investment Management to Address AGB Foundation Leadership Forum in La Jolla, Calif., January 22-24, 2012
(Washington, D.C.) – University of California President Mark Yudof, one of the nation’s most distinguished and provocative leaders in higher education, will open AGB’s 16th annual Foundation Leadership Forum, where nearly 400 leaders of public institution affiliated foundations will convene to discuss the public purposes of higher education and the role institutionally related foundations must play in advancing public colleges and universities. André Perold, CIO/Co-managing partner of HighVista Strategies, Eric Upin, partner and CIO of Makena Capital Management, and Mark Yusko, CEO and CIO, Morgan Creek Capital Management, as well as a panel of foundation board leaders, will discuss the ways foundations are adapting their endowment management practices in response to heightened market volatility and uncertainty.
The forum, held by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB), will also address:
- the increased need for private support of public higher education;
- foundations’ role in building a culture of philanthropy in support of public higher education;
- governance practices and strategic initiatives that can enhance the capacity of foundations; and
- the way in which foundation/institution partnerships are evolving as the funding and governance of public higher education changes.
"In the face of ongoing state revenue shortfalls and volatile and uncertain investment markets, AGB’s Foundation Leadership Forum provides an opportunity to focus on the important role of affiliated foundations in public higher education," said David Bass, AGB’s director of foundation programs and research. "Foundation board members and CEOs will be able to take time together to learn about issues affecting college and university foundations, share insights and best practices with colleagues from across the country, and explore ways foundations may be able to help forge a new compact in support of public higher education."
AGB’s Foundation Leadership Forum will be held January 22-24 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. For more information, visit www.agb.org/forum.
