
Committee on Trustees
This booklet is designed "to reinforce the thesis that the committee on trustees must perform with excellence if the board as a whole is to fulfill its responsibilities with distinction. The author outlines a typical committee mission, structure, responsibilities, and policies and practices. Ten committee responsibilities are described, such as:
- designing the board composition and statement of criteria;
- cultivating a network of trustee candidates;
- managing orientation programs, and keeping former trustees involved;
- motivating trustees and assessing their performance;
- analyzing future board talent needs; and
- ensuring the bylaws accurately reflect current policies and practice of the board.
Illustrative bylaw language for the committee on trustees is included.
