With federal, state, and local laws as well as institutional and system policy compliance requirements, institutions of higher education face increasingly complex compliance demands. Many colleges and universities have recently implemented or expanded a dedicated compliance office, function, and/or program, while others are working to mature their existing compliance programs to gain effectiveness and consistency across a decentralized organization. The Board can play a critical role in supporting compliance through exercising appropriate oversight and accountability, and ensuring the institution’s compliance program is appropriately resourced and adequately designed to meet the institution’s compliance risks.
In this session, we will walk through the compliance program assessment process and discuss case studies of its practical application and benefits for colleges, universities and their Boards.
