There is plenty of evidence that the value of a college degree and the reasons for pursuing one are as pronounced and persuasive as ever. Yet a combination of forces is putting this once inviolable premise to the test. While colleges and universities continue to attract millions of students each year and elite institutions are flooded with applications, the system overall is grappling with challenges ranging from rising costs and shifting demographics to technological change and eroding public support. This session will examine critical economic trends and the implications for the higher education sector while helping leaders contextualize insights with consideration of their own institutions’ circumstances.
