Ms. Georgia Yuan served as deputy undersecretary and deputy general counsel at the U.S. Department of Education from 2010-2013. Prior to joining the federal government, she was the general counsel and secretary to the corporation of Smith College in Massachusetts and the former general counsel at the University of Idaho. In these roles she developed a deep understanding of systems and organizations and the ways in which leaders and managers approach the challenges of complex institutions in state and federal government as well as in private nonprofit settings.
Ms. Yuan has a BA from Oberlin College, an MS from Stanford University, and a JD from the University of Idaho. She also holds a leadership coaching certificate from the Georgetown University Institute for Transformational Leadership. She is a member of the board of trustees of Oberlin College and has served on the board of HERS, Inc. a nonprofit dedicated to professional development for women in higher education. She served as chair of the board of the National Association of College and University Attorneys in 2006-07, following seven years on the board. The Association of Governing Boards of Colleges and Universities tapped her as a commissioner to serve on the National Commission on College and University Board Governance.
