“We stand in support of President Biden’s directive to the attorney general and the secretary of homeland security to take all actions ‘to preserve and fortify’ the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) guidance. This action will allow for more than 700,000 DACA recipients to remain in the United States and advance their educational aspirations.
The president’s memo is but one of several actions he took to shape immigration policies that will benefit students and higher education, including halting some regulations on student visas and rescinding the travel ban on multiple majority-Muslim countries. In addition, the President’s U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 signaled the administration’s willingness to offer a path to citizenship for Dreamers.
We hope that these steps will inform collaborations between the new Congress and the Biden administration to develop legislation supporting comprehensive immigration policies.”
