Penny Rue, PhD, has over 40 years of leadership experience in student Affairs at American colleges and universities, including serving as vice president for campus life at Wake Forest University, vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of California San Diego, dean of students at the University of Virginia, and senior associate dean of students at Georgetown University.
Rue is nationally known for her creative leadership in strengthening campus communities, developing comprehensive well-being initiatives, leading for equity and inclusion, and conducting effective enterprise risk management. She has strengths in organizational change management and strategic planning.
She is a certified executive leadership coach through Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformative Leadership. She served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators from 2015 to 2021, including as chair of the Board of Directors from 2019 to 2020. She currently serves on the Student Life Visiting Committee for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Rue holds an AB magna cum laude from Duke University, an MA in student personnel work from The Ohio State University, and a PhD in counseling and psychological services from the University of Maryland.
