For any organization to succeed, it needs strong leaders. The job of an institutionally related foundation board chair, however, is in its own category of leadership because of its focus on supporting higher education through philanthropy and the fiduciary duties that entails. The effectiveness of the foundation board chair is based on a number of distinct factors that I’ll describe in this article, organized into two basic categories: tactical and strategic.
