Student success is not a spectator sport. In an environment where the public perception of college’s value is declining, student diversity is increasing, political pressure is mounting, and funding is uncertain, governing boards can’t just cheer from the stands or watch from the sidelines. Governing boards must move from oversight to active strategic engagement in shaping the playbook for advancing student success. Such a playbook should not only detail what metrics boards will review regularly and how agendas remain aligned with strategic priorities but also how boards organize their work around student success.
