WASHINGTON, DC (July 15, 2025)—The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB), dedicated to strengthening strategic governance of college and university boards, announced the election of five new members of its board of directors for the 2025–2026 term. These new board members bring a wealth of experience from higher education, public service, law, and business, and reflect AGB’s commitment to advancing board excellence and supporting institutions as they navigate a dynamic and challenging higher education landscape. The new board members began their terms on July 1, 2025.
“Each of these leaders brings deep expertise, thoughtful perspective, and a shared commitment to AGB’s mission to advance strong board leadership and higher education’s critical role in society,” said Ross A. Mugler, AGB board chair and acting president and CEO. “We are excited to work together as AGB continues to serve our member colleges, universities, and foundations.”
Newly elected board members include:
- Peter Blake
Peter Blake served as director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) from 2012 to 2024, capping a distinguished career in public service that included leadership roles in the Virginia Community College System, state education policy, and legislative analysis. Since his retirement from SCHEV in 2024, Blake has served as interim president of the Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Colleges and as a senior advisor for the Lead Virginia leadership program. He currently serves on the board of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, Virginia. - William J. “Bill” Christy
William J. “Bill” Christy is president and CEO of CLASH Endurance, a sports media company that produces endurance events nationwide. Christy has also held leadership positions in numerous medical device companies and serves as vice chair of the board of trustees at the University of Central Florida. An accomplished entrepreneur and triathlete, he brings a unique perspective on innovation, leadership, and governance. - Scott Jenkins
Scott Jenkins is a veteran education policy leader who has served in senior roles at the National Governors Association, Lumina Foundation, and Western Governors University. He currently consults with state higher education leaders and serves as a trustee at Illinois State University, where he chairs the State Relations Committee and is an active advocate for public higher education governance. - Angela Onwuachi-Willig
Angela Onwuachi-Willig is dean and Ryan Roth Gallo Professor of Law at Boston University School of Law. A nationally recognized scholar of critical race theory, employment discrimination, and family law, Onwuachi-Willig is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Law Institute. She also serves on the board of trustees of Grinnell College and chairs the Association of American Law Schools Section on Women in Legal Education. - David Wippman
David Wippman most recently served as president-in-residence at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, following his tenure as president of Hamilton College from 2016 to 2024. A respected international law scholar and former dean of the University of Minnesota Law School, Wippman has held academic and leadership roles at Cornell University and serves on the governing boards of St. John’s College and the American University of Paris.
