AGB Consulting Launches New Services

AGB Consulting is pleased to introduce two new services for our members: Coaching for New Leadership and Business Model Innovation.

Coaching for New Leadership provides the critical support, guidance, and peer net-work for thinking through the issues new leadership will face, making sound decisions, and implementing effective action plans. This program, specifically developed for new presidents from the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 school years, offers the following:

  • Coaching by an experienced former president with top credentials and expertise in providing consultation to presidents
  • A dedicated executive coach for monthly sessions held virtually with a small group of peers and at least one 1:1 session for you and the coach
  • Scheduling flexibility—a 90-minute virtual session, once per month, during the school year

New presidents will be paired with an experienced past president and a small group of new presidents from other institutions to explore solutions to shared challenges, address issues unique to your campus, and prepare for what’s to come. “Even in the best of times, the most effective presidents and board chairs rely on coaching. Amid so much uncertainty, it’s more valuable than ever to have an experienced guide and a cohort of peers in your corner,” said Ken Knueven, managing director of AGB Consulting.

Another new service, the Business Model Innovation, is aimed at helping institutions build a long-term, sustainable financial model. Led by David Rowe, a former college president, the Business Model Innovation team has decades of combined experience and knowledge of best practices to help institutions quantify prosperity gaps, respond to emerging market trends, leverage technologies to build new, scalable revenue streams, and develop tactical implementation plans. The Business Model Innovation service focuses on three areas: (1) revenue growth strategy, (2) cost management strategy and financial modeling, and (3) financial assessments and trend alignment.

The service provides board members and institutional leaders “strategic guidance and support to become more stable over the short-term and more sustainable and prosperous over the long-term and has the resources and expertise to strengthen business strategies and practices, review and streamline operations, and identify and implement sustainable pathways forward,” according to Chris Moloney, AGB senior associate. “Now, more than ever, it’s important not to lose sight of the importance and value of innovation and transformation for an organization,” he said.

Registration Now Open for the Foundation Forum

AGB is excited to announce that registration is now open for the Foundation Leadership Forum 2021. This year’s virtual event is January 25–27, 2021, and will continue to deliver the highly interactive and informative experience AGB members have come to expect.

Foundations are moving beyond merely surviving the COVID crisis to leading change within a new landscape. This conference’s plenary and concurrent sessions, keynotes, and small group discussions will address both the immediate challenges facing foundations as well as opportunities for longer-term growth and innovation.

The Foundation Leadership Forum is a premier networking event for foundation boards and executive leadership. “There will be ample networking opportunities to ensure our members renew and expand existing relationships in addition to receiving compelling session content,” said Tiffany Dean, AGB’s senior director of institutionally related foundations.

Federal Policy and Advocacy Update

The last few months have been busy on Capitol Hill with AGB advocating for higher education. AGB has issued several policy alerts on key issues such as the new Title IX regulations regarding sexual harassment, international student visas, and the CARES Act. AGB also called on its membership to contact Congress to request support for: emergency aid to students and institutions, expanded loan programs, limited liability protections, and funding for university research. “Congressional staff told AGB that member efforts have had a real and lasting impact on officials,” said Cristin Toutsi Grigos, senior director of public policy and strategic communication. “We thank our AGB members for continuing to champion the needs of students and institutions during these uncertain times.”
