But as we all understand—perhaps too well in the current climate—reflexive, sometimes hastily crafted statements in response to the influence of donors, board members, special interest groups, and others not only introduces risk but can unintentionally signal that the school has taken a formal position. Yet in these unsettled times, when our community looks to us for guidance, how do we strike the right balance between institutional neutrality and values-based leadership?
