About Trusteeship
Our readers are lay trustees and regents, presidents and chancellors, and senior administrators in all types of colleges and universities. Their concerns are higher-education governance and policy, and they especially want to know how trustees can do their jobs more effectively. Your article must directly address these individuals. Keep in mind that more than 25,000 of our 35,000+ readers are trustees!
Articles generally follow three themes: (1) practical advice, information, and how-to examples on topics that affect the management of colleges and universities; (2) discussions of emerging trends or reports of research related to higher-education governance and policy; and (3) ideas and issues that trustees and presidents will find interesting and provocative.
To Submit An Article
We will gladly send you a recent issue of the magazine to give you a sense of article style, length, format, and range of topics.
Your article should be 2,000-2,500 words typed double-spaced (approximately 7-12 pages long).
Please write in clear, lively, jargon-free prose in the active voice. Begin your article with a strong lead paragraph and use lots of examples to illustrate your theme.
Trusteeship is a popular-style magazine, not an academic journal. We do not publish footnotes or references, so please incorporate the source of any information within the text. Alternatively, if you want to let us know you can document a specific assertion or data, attach a short note at the end of the piece. Do not include charts or graphs, unless that is the best way to present the material.
Submit your article by e-mail. Include your name, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address.
Our Editorial Review Process
We will notify you by e-mail when we receive your article.
Our editorial staff reviews each manuscript, and we occasionally ask AGB staff members, consulting editors, or others for their views. This process generally takes less than one month.
We will send you a letter stating whether we have accepted your manuscript, whether it needs revisions to make it more suitable for Trusteeship readers, or whether we are unable to publish it. We do not guarantee publication, even if we have solicited the article.
If Your Article is Accepted
We will ask you to sign a release form that grants AGB copyright and permission to edit the article to conform to our style and format.
Please submit the manuscript as an e-mail attachment stored in Word.
Once we have edited your article, we will send you the revised version to review before publication. Publication is scheduled at the editor’s discretion.
If You Have an Idea For an Article
We welcome inquiries in advance of submissions. Please contact the editor if you have an idea or article you think may be appropriate for Trusteeship. We often can help authors shape an article while it is in preparation, shortening the editorial process for everyone involved.
Thank you for your interest in Trusteeship.
