It’s not hyperbole to say the college presidency has never been more difficult. News headlines continue to reflect this, as do my conversations with trustees and presidents across the country. Presidents are under extraordinary pressure. They are expected to lead institutions through unprecedented challenges while simultaneously advancing long-term strategy and protecting institutional mission.
