In his 2023 book, Whatever It Is, I’m Against It, published by Harvard University Press, Brian Rosenberg, president emeritus of Macalester College, writes about the intense resistance to change in higher education. He sees this resistance stemming from a number of factors, including incentive structures, disciplinary boundaries, faculty tenure, shared governance traditions, and institutional rankings, among others.
